A Garden Jewel

A Garden Jewel

Diving into the metal design business and marrying the art with exterior design starting in 2012.  The love for metal started because I love industrial design and cold materials, like the combination of metal and concrete.  Blacksmithing is where I wanted to practice.  I started to take a course up north about 12 years ago(2006) and I knew I wanted this to be a part of my life.  In 2013 I decided to downsize my business and focus mostly on exterior design.  It was bitter sweet discontinuing the physical implementation of beautiful gardens and full property make-overs but it was getting hard on my back.  The clients were so great and the industry is ever evolving, so I decided to fill the space with custom metal pieces with in the garden designs.   I called it adding a “jewel” to each design.  A one of a kind art piece that would stand out amongst a perfectly designed garden or backyard.  A blacksmithed gate, a privacy screen, or a sculpture  that can be implemented in a part of the garden.  This piece can be bold, whimsical,  and creative beyond the client’s dreams.  It starts with getting to know the client and their style and personality, so important not to over design in fear of losing the clients due to something being “too loud” for their taste.  Art is subjective and part of the creation is making sure you understand the client (something I practiced during the landscape design interview process).  Now I can be proud of an ever growing design library that we can pick elements from and add to.  The end results are perfect canvases for the garden, showing off what were forgotten corners, blocking unsightly areas, or softening a large wall.
